Free Range Bubba's !! Need I worry?

So recently it has come to attention that my child is...shall we say.. free range ! There is very little routine in our house, no set in stone bed time, no definite day sleep time and no "you must sit at the table to eat your dinner". We ( the so called adults in the family ) kind of feel we are raising a child who rather than being forced to do things at a time that suits us, is choosing his own way and shedding less tears in the process. Our little man is about to turn 2 and when we put him to bed at 7:30 if he really isn't tired he gets up and bangs lightly (at first) on his door with his empty bottle to let us know he thinks being in bed is for losers and we actually go and let him out !! Much to the disgust of many parents. He runs out very excited to have some overtime on the field and while we may secretly think "dammit thought we had some quiet time " we love having him up. When things get a little crazy we know it's time for bed and usually he doesn't fight because he is then too tired. Sometimes he puts himself too bed also. During the day when he gets tired he sleeps in his bean bag sometimes, when watching Rory the race car has just been too taxing and other times he sleeps in bed ! There are sometimes massive tantrums when we are shopping because he can't have the 5th ball or car he has wanted that week and they are..to say the least..embarrasing.! so it is at these times I wonder if things would be different if we were the parenting equivalent to Hitler ? Would he say " sure..I didn't really need that car anyway mum...put it back" ? Who knows ! My little sister runs her house totally differently to ours, there is a routine and there are arguments with her 3 year old about it quite often I'm told
but her children are well mannered and seem quite controllable !! Not immune to a tantrum though ! I do come from an area where there are hippies a plenty and where running free is more valuable than all the money you could round up so maybe it's rubbed off..it's a little of the hippy in me shining through ? But I cross my fingers that my child will feel free to express himself as he gets older but never to the detriment of anyone else and that he will be respectful
of other peoples choices. I think that's what we all want, I just wish someone had the manual for kids that guaranteed it. Just thought I'd share one of the monumental tanty's with you..look at that angry face !!

The Excitement of Kids Instyle

So all the anxiety and organisation is over..we are back from the Kids Instyle trade show and have finally recovered from the "jet lag" that kept us in zombie mode for most of yesterday. The trip down took hours more than expected as we learnt that Tom Tom loses contact with the navigation gods when he is taken into a tunnel !! When we arrived I was so nervous I was shaking..There were so many stands with labels that I have come to love and admire over the past year..There were stands with so many items in that if you entered you may never come out, lost in a world of childhood fantasy, wooden toys and those uber cool sock monkeys and the like...(i am now in love with sock monkeys !) But after setting up our stand I realised there was a real mix of labels , small to large and everyone was very friendly and not as scary as I had imagined. Much to my surprise I hadn't forgotten the most important things and even more surprising I hadn't forgotten anything !! Oh hold on..I did forget a broom and the nails but we manged to convince people to lend those. We managed to secure ourselves not only extra stockists but also agents for NZ so we are quite happy with the results over all..We were photographed for World Trend Forecaster which, although I haven't jumped on there site as yet, I am lead to believe is quite a big deal and Mandy who took the pics and also works for Babyology was really lovely. Anyhoo here are some pics and I will tell you more about my favourite labels from the show in the next update x x

FB, Blog, Twitter aaaagggggghhhhhhhhh!!!

To tell you the truth I have very little desire to air my thoughts and happenings on to the world ! But since reading a few blogs I have learnt that my favourites are ones that give you an insight into someones inner thought, the funny examples of confusion they feel or just the reasons why they have done things and the funny events that happened because of it..There is one that I think is called the neurotic mum or something similar and now I'm not one to get into reading blogs ( very short attention span) but this had me really drawn in. She explained how torn she was between her desire to be a "green" household and her need to use the clothes dryer etc as she had too many kids and too little time. I just somehow felt I knew this lady or that she would be great to know and overall it was just FUNNY ..I have sworn to myself that this year is the year of social networking for me, getting to use all those free marketing tools we have at our disposal (like blogging hehe) and so I suppose this is a blog to get me ..well..back into the blog so to speak..We are about to launch our summer 2010-11 range so I will be on every possible spot telling anyone who will listen about that but I think I will try to keep my blogging more about funny happenings and other peoples fabulous things rather than too much about our label.. And the good thing about not having many followers is that you feel you can say just about anything you like really Woo hooo for free speech (pardon the free networking pun) I look forward to blogging more often and hope someone out there in blogland is listening. It's like putting a message into space and waiting for the reply that there is someone out there lol.

The Adventures of Albert

So this is Albert
Albert was a model in our fantastic winter shoot ( he was more of a prop but we don't like to tell him ). Albert had a girlfriend...her name was Barbie, while Albert was away on assignment he decided that he had to split up with her due to the fact that Barbie was to superficial, high maintenance and quite frankly with both of them being models now there schedules were just to hectic. This is all very lucky as not long after he saw pic's of Barbie in "New Prop Weekly" holidaying with that ex of hers Ken ! Yes, Albert has been a little heartbroken so he took a little time to relax. Albert's not your usual model, he's not just an airhead and likes to brush up on his reading. Note the Dr Phil !! he likes to " get real " and "get excited about his life ". So while he was on his stop over at our house on his way back home, Albert cought up with some old friends, he still likes to kick it with the real people ! He went on a bit off a bush walk , took in some sun and lazed by the pool. All of this helped with his heartache I think and we packed him off home back to his manager Victoria at www.brusselsproutskids.com.au . Barbie has been seen getting about everywhere and we have told him it was all for the best, the plastic fantastic is no match for the all natural ,non allergenic qualities of Albert.x
